Great central location with easy access to Waihi itself, and area's such as Whiritoa, Whanagamata, Paeroa within easy driving distance. Great Steak at The Sterling pub. When coming into Waihi from Paeroa on a nice day, suggest stopping somewhere along the Karangahake gorge for a walk. Beautiful on a sunny day.

You can't go wrong in Waihi with fish and chips at Kelly's ,Ti Tree cafe for coffee and brunch and a stay at Araluen House with host Julie. The rim walk at Martha mine has attractive planting and is worth doing.

We visited Martha's Mine and the Ole Pump House. This is quite cook esp the "Poppy Fence". Apparently, the walk right round the mine is 5kms so have an extra hour for that. Supermarkets were easy to find, likewise the take-aways shops. Lovely small town place.

Loved the family friendly Goldfields train trip to Waikino and back plus easy walking to Victoria Battery such history. Pleasant railway tea and coffee restaurant great food. The Marthas mine was breathtaking nothing short of amazing. Waihi has great takeaway food places cheap eating and finish off at Athenree Hot spring pools. Waihi Beach is great for a picnic even in the winter fish and chips or a coffee on the beach awesome. My weekend with family with children was amazing at Waihi go there 😊😊

For me and my interest in family history & genealogy, mining and social history, Waihi is a great place to visit. Great German Bakery and had an excellent meal from Tandori Chambers. Had a wonderful trip on the train from Waihi to Waikino. People everywhere were so helpful and I will return again soon with my wife. I really enjoyed the Memorial to the WW1 tunnelers and the bronze sculptures in the town.
